Lipton was raised on Long Island with her brothers: Robert, who became an actor, and Kenneth. Her paternal grandparents (surnamed Lipschitz) were Jewish immigrants from Russia, and her mother was born in Dublin, Ireland, to Jewish parents from Latvia.
